Top Posts and Other New Things of 2013

It’s always fun to receive an unexpected gift. This Christmas a dear friend made me a homemade necklace. Along with the necklace was a card in which she wrote, “I made this necklace for you, Trill. It’s a symbol of new life and new starts in a new place…We love you and miss you all!!!” Her note, besides bringing me much joy, sums up 2013 for me;  new life and new starts in almost every area of my life, including writing.

A Book

I submitted United: Captured by God’s Vision for Diversity to my publisher, Moody Publishers, in August. In a few short weeks I will begin sharing more about the message of this book. United is deeply personal. I reveal fears and struggles that were—until I wrote the book—private, only a handful of close friends were privy to much of my concerns.  Besides getting to know my heart, I am praying it will also be inspiring and encouraging to those who read it. I am convinced that the gospel has the power to break the barriers and confusion that often divide ethnic groups. There is such beauty in diversity.

Articles

Along with writing United, I began writing as much as humanly possible for various sites. I love writing. I do, however, have much to learn, especially writing in blog form. I write often because I want to be more effective in my writing. I write because I love people.  I write because I believe it is one way that I can bring glory to God and highlight His grace, mercy, and Word, as well as think through the implications of our faith in this world.

Here are thirteen of the top* posts I wrote for a  few outlets this year.

Modern Day Slavery, ERLC (I was thrilled to begin a new position at ERLC in August, which you can learn about here)

Close Encounters of the Unknowing Kind, my site

Mirror Wars, Relevant Magazine

When Mother’s Day is Hard, TGC

(Also: Legalism or Love? Religious or Radical?, Desiring God and one of my favorite interviews of the year, An Interview with Matthew Lee Anderson. Note: I am the Lead Editor of Karis, but as such I do not write often because I am managing in the background.)

Thank you for reading in 2013. God has been faithful to my family and me through the various changes this year. God has been faithful in this little area of my life called writing as well.

*I’ve seen many people post their top articles for the year. The word “top” is relative but most seem to base it off of social media shares. I based a few off of the social media sharing they received, but since I write on various topics, instead of posting my real “top” articles, I’ve listed a variety of posts that were highly shared on their respective site.
